Structural Steel Fabricators in Leeds

Your project deserves the best. Our skilled structural steel fabricators in Leeds deliver strong, reliable steel solutions tailored to your exact requirements.

Strong, Reliable Structural Steel Solutions

At Jackson’s Fabrication Ltd, we deliver precision-engineered structural steel in Leeds and across the UK, from small-scale fabrications to large warehouse frameworks.

With certified processes and years of expertise, our team ensures every structure is safe, durable, and built to last.

Cold cutting for accuracy, speed, and distortion-free results.

Advanced Cutting Technology

As leading structural steel fabricators in Leeds, we use advanced water jet cutting technology to guarantee accuracy and efficiency. Our in-house system is capable of cutting steel plates up to 200 mm thick without heat distortion.

Because water jet cutting is a cold process, it maintains the steel’s natural properties and avoids altering its structure—unlike laser cutting. The result is beam plates and components that fit flawlessly, maintain full strength, and streamline assembly.

This process not only speeds up delivery but also reduces the need for additional machining, offering both time and cost savings for our clients.

Serving Independent Builders and Large Contractors Alike.

Structural Steel for Any Industry

As leading structural steel fabricators in Leeds, we work with a wide variety of clients — from independent builders and DIY homeowners to national contractors and developers.

No project is too small or too large. Every client receives the same reliable communication, expert advice, and precision-engineered steelwork tailored to their project requirements.

From Workshop To Site, Managed Every Step Of The Way

We provide more than steelwork – we provide peace of mind. Our full project management and installation service ensures every detail is planned, fabricated, and erected with precision, keeping your build on track.

Your Questions, Answered by Experts

From steel grades to non-destructive testing, our team explains key industry topics clearly—so you know exactly what to expect from your steel project.

Can you deliver outside of Leeds?

Yes. Although we’re based in Leeds, we regularly deliver and install across the UK.

Our location near major West Yorkshire routes allows prompt deliveries, and our site teams can install frames nationwide, subject to programme and site access.

For smaller items, we offer supply-only with courier/haulage; for larger frames, we provide transport, off-load, and erection.

What is a dead load on a building?

Dead load (permanent action) is the self-weight of the structure and fixed components—steel frames, floors, roof coverings, cladding, finishes, and permanently attached equipment.

It’s distinct from live (imposed) loads (people, furniture, snow, wind, machinery in use).

Engineers calculate dead and live loads using Eurocode 1 (BS EN 1991) and design the steelwork accordingly in Eurocode 3 (BS EN 1993).

We fabricate to those approved calculations and drawings, ensuring members are cut, drilled, and welded to the specified sizes and grades.

What grade is structural steel in the UK?

UK structural steel is typically specified to BS EN 10025.

The most common grades are S275 and S355 (e.g., S275JR, S355JR/J2), where the number indicates minimum yield strength in MPa (275 or 355 MPa).

Choice depends on strength, toughness (JR/J0/J2 impact ratings), weldability, and project specification.

As structural steel fabricators in Leeds working to EN 1090 (Execution Class 2), we supply and fabricate to the grade specified on your engineer’s drawings, maintaining full material traceability (mill certs).

Do I need structural drawings to order steel?

For structural elements (beams, columns, frames), yes—you’ll need structural engineer drawings and calculations so we can fabricate exactly to specification and comply with EN 1090.

If you don’t yet have drawings, we can:

  • Liaise with your engineer
  • Carry out a site survey
  • Produce fabrication/shop drawings for approval before manufacture

For simple non-structural items, a sketch and dimensions may be enough—but we’ll always advise if engineering input is required.

What is the difference between structural steel and normal steel?

“Normal” or “mild” steel is a general term; it may not be certified for load-bearing use.

Structural steel is a specified product with defined mechanical properties, chemical composition, weldability class, and full traceability, supplied to standards such as BS EN 10025 and fabricated under EN 1090.

In practice, that means structural members (beams, columns, plates) are designed by an engineer, fabricated by a certified fabricator (like us), and installed with QA records to demonstrate compliance.

What is non-destructive testing (NDT) in structural steel fabrication?

NDT checks the quality of welds and materials without damaging them. Depending on the project specification, we use:

  • Magnetic Particle Testing (MT): finds surface/near-surface cracks in ferromagnetic steels.
  • Dye Penetrant Testing (PT): highlights very fine surface flaws (good for non-magnetic parts).
  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT) / other metal tests: detects internal discontinuities in plates and welds.

These tests verify integrity before delivery/installation and support compliance with EN 1090 and accepted quality levels (e.g., ISO 5817).

We select methods based on weld class, access, and acceptance criteria on your drawings.
